Seattle Family Photographer | Candid Fall Session

Shooting family sessions is where I started and is such fun. Every family is so unique and I love for my sessions to take a kind of meandering path between a few posed, looking-at-the-camera card-worthy shots and then lots of in between time where personalities come out and serious kid magic happens. One of the biggest fears my clients have is whether their kids will behave and smile nicely and I actually never want that to happen! (Other than for like 5% of the photos.) I love to see their funny ideas. Kids are insanely creative and if you let them take the lead you will go to interesting places.

I loved this fall session at Discovery Park. A word of advice: if you want fall photos, it’s best to take them in September before rainy season hits! Also, if you’re open to an in-home session, they’re absolutely magical.

Seattle Backyard Wedding | Elopement Film & Digital Photographer

Andrea & Zach had about three different versions of a plan for their wedding, and in the end, threw a really beautiful backyard wedding at their friend’s house with their closest family and friends. Everyone pitched in to make it possible, from the food to the rentals. Andrea got ready at her parent’s house, and then we did their first look at one of the places I love to hike with my family, Meadowdale Beach Park in Lynnwood. I’ve always imagined shooting a couple there, and it worked out perfectly for their day!

I’ve been playing with using more film in my wedding day approach, and am including some in this gallery.

Washington Coastal Elopement | Seattle Wedding Photographer

With big plans that were postponed until next year due to Covid-19, Katie and Andrew still wanted to commit to one another on their original wedding date. They decided to elope with their immediate families and closest friends on a beautiful summer day. Their intimate wedding ceremony overlooked the San Juan Islands and the water, with occasional ferries cris-crossing the horizon.

With a celebration this size, you can really take advantage of what nature has already provided. There was a short hike to the bluff they chose, and I loved how everyone made a small journey to arrive at this place. Now when they go back to visit it will be so special and have such meaning. Though 2020 has thrown SO many curveballs into wedding planning, I do love the creativity it’s brought out in couples, and the determination that love conquers all.

P.S. There are a few film images thrown in here, can you spot them?

Washington Forest Elopement Bridals | Seattle Wedding Photographer

2020 has truly been a strange year. But one thing that has been so beautiful is that couples get to be really creative about how and where they’re celebrating their love. For so long, we’ve had traditions that create boundaries and borders for us to simply fill in. With Covid-19 being such a monkey wrench in wedding planning, I’ve actually found that elopements and smaller celebrations are just as significant, and sometimes even better!

We headed into the Cascades to reach a forested spot so gorgeous and quiet that Melanie & Carson couldn’t help but focus on each other and just be present in the beautiful nature surroundings for their bridal session. Mountaintops get a lot of love, but the forest floor is so lush and green, and even better if you’re not up for a giant hike to reach your destination. (Me, hi!)

A few tips for the perfect forest session:

  • Bring a different pair of shoes so you can get to the hard-to-reach spots!

  • Bug spray. BUG SPRAY! Dang it!

  • Make sure to coordinate EXACTLY where you’re meeting in areas where cell reception is shoddy. We didn’t have any problems, but a little planning ahead is well worth the effort.

  • Bring a friend! Their sister/sister-in-law was SO great at helping hold, primp, etc. There’s so much extra fabric and veil and all when it comes to wedding photos vs. an engagement session. Sometimes having a person there that you know and love can help set you at ease, too.

If you’re loving these vibes, please reach out to coordinate your own perfect micro-wedding or elopement!
