Seattle Engagement Photography Session at Discovery Park

If you’re planning a wedding, it’s a ton of work and sometimes can be stressful. One thing that feels like a highlight during all of this is enjoying your engagement session. It’s something that you can pretty easily check off your list, it gives you a great experience and memory, and it helps move you forward with other elements of wedding plans, like save-the-dates and a wedding website. I love getting to enjoy this stage with my couples because it feels truly celebratory.

Even though you might not think it at first, your photo session is actually a great chance to spend some quality time together and just focus on one another. Obviously, getting beautiful and candid photos of your relationship is a huge plus, too! For 99.9% of my couples, their engagement session is the first time ever being photographed professionally. So amidst all the excitement you might feel slightly nervous about a camera being around your personal space and story. As a photographer who shoots a lot of weddings, elopements and engagement sessions, I feel like my secret weapon is to help put you at ease and create a space where you can really just be yourself and trust that I’ll find the beauty in that and turn it into great photos. It doesn’t hurt that living in Seattle gives us so many beautiful PNW locations to get the setting just right, too.

Enjoy this sunny session at Discovery Park!

Jardin del Sol Wedding | Rachel & Matt

When Rachel reached out about her wedding, the first thing I noticed was her Chicago are code. HELLO say no more I must photograph your wedding because we are kindred souls from the same homeland. Luckily the actual connection was there too so we said I do. And we did.

Though their venue was at Jardin del Sol in Snohomish, we started the day downtown at the Four Seasons for the groomsmen (I found it hilarious that they had this great room that they hung out in the night before, and then NO ONE slept there, and they all came back to get ready the next day), and the girls were at the Marriott Seattle Waterfront. Both had stellar views of the water, just down the way from each other.

Everyone finished getting ready at Jardin del Sol. It was a beautiful overcast day and everything was just GREEN. Jardin del Sol is just north of Seattle in Snohomish, which is known for its beauty. It’s a perfect garden wedding venue, without being too manicured or fussy. There is enough raw nature to create stunning bridal portraits and with all the amenities you want to have a wedding with ease. Jardin del Sol has tents already on site, so you don’t have to worry about rain on your wedding day.

My advice to couples getting married here is to think about having two bars! Rachel and Matt did and it made for great flow throughout the venue (and no lines). My other advice is to have a great planner and/or day-of coordinator. The Eventists ran this evening SO well. When you’re bringing in catering and other rentals, it’s best to have someone direct that.

My advice to photographers is to get into the outskirts of the venue as well as the more landscaped areas. Both offer beautiful spots for photos, and create variety.

Enjoy!

Lindsey + Jared | A PNW Forest Engagement Session

Meeting with Lindsey and Jared to talk about their wedding, I learned that I would probably definitely absolutely love them. Planning a private ceremony out in nature to be followed by a big bash with all their friends and family sounds like a dream. I’m so excited to be capturing their wedding day, and had such a great time with them during this session. I love this location — it’s not a big flashy spot, yet it feels like the perfect surrounding for intimate, joyful, sweet photos. I felt free to create, to pause, to see new things, and I loved it. I hope you do, too.

(Psst.. see their wedding here.)

Enjoy.

Rachel + Jon | Lincoln Park West Seattle Engagement

I had completely forgotten that Rachel told me she was a dancer. We showed up to our shooting spot at Lincoln Park, wandered in a ways and I saw a great clearing to get started. I love open space and outdoor locations the most for shooting. No one’s around to watch, there’s room to move, and fresh pine air never hurt anyone. I digress. I forgot she told me she was a dancer. I told them to just move around together a bit while holding hands, more so I could work on my lighting and settings, and what I got was chemistry made visible with the way these two worked across this forest floor — all within 5 seconds. What followed was an hour of side-splitting laughter. I clicked about 3 million images this whole session and I just love it. I’m so excited to shoot their wedding next month.
