This contemporary custom home brings together clean architectural lines, warm natural materials, and thoughtfully considered interiors.

Designed by Roger MacPherson and Dan Buchser, with interiors by Kara Stupfel and construction by MacPherson Construction & Design, the home balances a strong architectural framework with a warm, inviting approach to residential design.

Natural wood, stone, expansive windows, and layered furnishings create a palette that feels both refined and relaxed. Throughout the home, contemporary architectural details are softened by tactile materials and carefully selected furnishings, creating spaces that feel sophisticated without becoming overly formal.

As a Seattle interior photographer, I focused on the relationship between the architecture, interiors, and natural light throughout the home. Wide architectural compositions establish the flow and proportions of each space, while closer images highlight the craftsmanship, material details, and thoughtful interior styling.

The result is a home where architecture and interiors feel completely integrated, with a restrained material palette and a strong emphasis on warmth, texture, and livability.

Bainbridge Island Interior Photography | Emily Keeney

Photographed for Seattle magazine, this Bainbridge Island home is a study in modern architecture, natural light, and the quiet beauty of life on the water.

Located on the west side of Bainbridge Island, the 3,200-square-foot home was designed by architect Peter Brachvogel as a long-term “legacy” home, with a strong emphasis on durability, sustainability, and connection to the surrounding landscape. The owners, Dilip Wagle and Darshana Shanbhag, envisioned it as a second home where they could slow down, spend time outdoors, and feel immersed in the rhythms of the water and surrounding natural environment.

Large windows and expansive openings make the landscape feel like an extension of the interior. Throughout the home, clean architectural lines are balanced by warm wood, collected artwork, sculptural furnishings, and a restrained palette that keeps the focus on the views beyond.

The home was built in 2012 and refreshed in 2020 with an emphasis on sustainable materials and systems, including radiant-heated concrete floors and a geothermal heating system. Its substantial roof overhangs protect the cedar exterior while also shaping the way natural light enters the home.

For the interiors, the owners wanted to maintain a feeling of light and space while incorporating an eclectic collection of art inspired by nature and modern interpretations of humanity. The result is contemporary but relaxed, with the feeling of a true retreat rather than a highly formal second residence.

As an interior and architectural photographer, this project was especially rewarding to photograph because the architecture and landscape are so intertwined. The strongest images often came from allowing the spaces to breathe and letting the water, trees, changing light, and surrounding landscape become part of the composition.

Green Bay Lakefront Luxury Interior Photography & Video | Seattle Interior Photographer with Chicago Roots

Traveling to Green Bay, Wisconsin, for this lakefront renovation was an absolute dream. Partnering with Designs of the Interior (DOTI) and DeLeers Construction, we documented a massive, high-end overhaul over two full days of photography and video. From the moment I arrived, it was clear this was going to be a special project: the team’s energy, attention to detail, and styling expertise made every shot a joy to create.

This was a luxury property at its finest — sleek, modern finishes paired with warm, inviting textures, all taking full advantage of lake views and natural light. Working alongside the DOTI team, we tweaked each frame shot by shot, experimenting with angles, light, and composition to ensure the images truly captured the feeling of living in the space. Every corner of this renovation told a story, and my job was to make it sing through both photography and video.

Collaborating in person with the DOTI team was one of the highlights of the trip — we even went for dinner together, celebrating the space, the design, and the process. I genuinely appreciated how much thought and care they put into styling and presenting the home, and how open they were to collaboration. It’s rare to find clients who are both insanely talented and incredibly fun to work with, and I feel lucky to have documented this project with them.

As a Seattle-based interior photographer with Chicago roots, I love traveling for projects like this across the Midwest. Projects like this allow me to bring my natural-light, lifestyle-focused approach to homes that are both aspirational and deeply personal. Photography and video work hand-in-hand to capture architecture, interiors, and the lived-in feeling that makes a house a home.

This project was a big deal — a luxury lakefront renovation, two full days of shooting, and a truly collaborative creative process. But more than that, it was a reminder of why I love what I do: telling stories of space, light, and lifestyle in ways that feel real, elevated, and human.
